Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.


Job Description
-The Shift Supervisor – Mining Operations will manage the quality and assurance processes, maximize the utilization of equipment in area of responsibility while managing subordinates’ activities to achieve section’s set targets.

Some of the key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in accordance with operational risk management, application rules, regulations, procedures, and instruction in all team interactions, and take personal responsibility to safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Directing the production environment through the effective monitoring and controlling of the production processes to ensure output are within the required specifications.
  • Coordinating, optimizing, and improving Mining (Load & Haul) activities to deliver KPI’s.
  • Spending face-to-face time in the field with all stakeholders to ensure compliance to standards, procedures, regulations, rules and controls and to optimize production efficiencies.
  • Mange weekly schedule review and work management
  • Managing the day-to-day administration activities
  • Conduct investigation of incidents (safety, health, environmental and social) within work area .
  • Coordinates ad hoc projects.

This role is in the Mining department at a Band 7 level reporting to the relevant Section Manager.


  • Qualifications
    -Grade 12 (Matric) – Essential
  • Diploma or NQF Level 6 (Mining Qualifications Advantageous)
  • Opencast Blasting/Rock Breaking Certificate – Essential
  • Valid South African Driver’s license - Essential

Experience:

  • 3+ years’ mining production experience
  • Mining reporting tools
  • Knowledge of Computer Literacy
